SEIU Local 509 members in good standing, and children of members in good standing, are eligible to apply for several union scholarships:
SEIU Local 509 Scholarships
Activists ScholarshipsThe following scholarships are based on
the activism of the SEIU 509 member. These scholarships could be awarded
to a member in good standing or the dependent of a member in good standing. The member will need to
mail in an "activism questionnaire" that
displays their contributions to SEIU 509 community:

The John
Follit Award is a $2000 scholarship. It is awarded to an active member
or child and/or dependent of a member who is part of SEIU 509’s public sector.

The Ginny
Steinberg Award is a $2000 scholarship. It is awarded to an active
member or child and/or dependent of a member who is part of SEIU 509’s private
sector.
Officers Scholarship
- Martin Martinian
Memorial Award is $1000 scholarship. It is awarded to the child and/or dependent of an officer or a steward of SEIU Local 509. To be
awarded by lottery to those who qualify.
General Scholarships for Members
The
following scholarships are awarded to SEIU 509 members in good standing
and children and/or dependents of members and are awarded by
lottery:

Luis Vega Memorial Award - $1000

Hilyard / McHugh/ Shea / Prout Award - $3000
- Scholarships provided by Colonial Insurance - $500
Veterans Committee ScholarshipThe
Kligel-Jolley Memorial Scholarship
is available and awarded to veterans or children and/or dependents of veterans. Please contact Ed Donnelly at 617-924-8509 x521 for more
information.
Applications for all SEIU 509 scholarships are due by March 1, 2010.
Note that for the Ginny Steinberg and John Follitt scholarships, you need to download and mail in a completed "Activism Questionnaire." The
Kligel-Jolley Memorial Scholarship requires a
different
application.
